Revision as of 04:44, 10 October 2014

The VMware Wiki (or vmWIKI) was founded on the 29th November by Mike Laverick. Scott Lowe, Edward Halekty, David Davis, Eric Sloof, Jason Boche, Eric Siebert and Duncan Epping were select to be co-founders to ensure that the long term direction of the vmWIKI Foundation remains one that is wholly not for profit and funded by voluntary donations. The co-founders were selected for their outstanding contributions to community in the last 10 years, and unimpeachable track record for integrity. The intention of vmWIKI is to be a platform for the VMware Community (vCommunity) for the creation and maintenance of product information concerning all VMware Technologies, independent of the company - and independent of interference by vendors who may wish to co-opt it for the promotion their products. Whilst we welcome coverage of complementary technologies and even competing ones. The content should remain technical, and it should it should be assumed that the customer has already bought the technology - and therefore there is nothing to sell to them. vmWIKI was born as an attempt to create an online encyclopaedia that is maintained by the vCommunity, and seeded with content from those who have been recognised with consistently high-quality content. We welcome contributions from all people regardless of experience. Why not "Donate a blogpost today?"

1. Attach the DVD to your server - in this example a HP DL385 G1 was used which has an onboard "ILO" Management Card. This is quite an old server, and should see a more modern UI on a contemporary system. In this case the HP ILO's "Virtual Media" feature was used to mount the VMware ESX DVD .ISO to the physical host, and the host powered on. By default the VMware ESX host installer pauses briefly for 10seconds at this boot menu screen. alt vSphere Host/VMware ESX Install booted in a HP with ILO and virtual media attached

2. After this the install will continue to load the files required for installation. Read On...

vFlash Read Cache Performance PDF (vFRC) – vSphere 5.5 by Vladan Seget (vExpert)

A New whitepaper which has been released by VMware brings details about new feature present in vSphere 5.5 – vFlash Read Cache (VFRC). I already reported on the details about VFRC in my article - VMware vSphere 5.5 vFlash Read Cache. The paper brings more details about vFlash Read Cache Performance through much deeper testing with different workload characteristics, different cache size and different cache block size.
