UK North-East VMUG:

I will be attending at two VMUGs in the month of June. In an effort to show my face at every VMUG in the UK this year I’ll be heading up to the North-East of England on Wednesday night – ready for the VMUG in Newcastle this Friday. As I said to the guys I will be taking Owa Lass u’North to see Owa Mam and Owa Dad. I was born in the Peoples Republic of Teesside, which is not a stones throw away from Newcastle (yes, and sometimes stones have been exchanged – but that’s normally between Sunderland and Newcastle…). So I will be taking my wife up North to see the “in-laws” and Owa Mam and Owa Lass will do a spot of shopping whilst I will do a spot of Vmugging (yes, my presentations can feel like you have been mugged…)

To be a bit more specific the Newcastle event is at this locale and you can register online here

Agenda includes:

  • Cisco Presentation: How Cisco Does IT
Meet Richard Gore who will discuss how Cisco deployed VMware in their environment as the first step toward deploying private cloud, IaaS and PaaS in Cisco production data centers.
Rich is a Cisco IT senior manager with 14 years’ experience in Cisco IT infrastructure architecture.  He has 30 years of IT experience at Bell Labs, AT&T, as a private consultant and now with Cisco IT.
  • User Presentation: Virtualising SQL instances
Rod Hope from BSkyB (and Scottish VMUG) will give a presentation on his real world experiences virtualising SQL Server.
Rod has over 13 years’ experience working with some of the world’s largest investment / investment services banks and has recently joined BSkyB’s Operations Engineering group in an Infrastructure Designer role.
  • VMware Presentation: “DR and the Cloud – To, From, Of”
Meet Mike Laverick who will discuss the challenges of doing DR to the cloud, from the cloud and of the cloud.
Mike is a real VMware A lister, having spent several years as an instructor and blogger, and written several books on topics such as vSphere 4, SRM and View, he joined VMware as an employee last year.
  • Q&A and Wrap-Up: Raffle and Interactive Feedback: Bring Your Own Device
We’ve been using an App to ask the audience so far but if the Wi-Fi lets us down we’ll go old school and ask for show of hands on what you’d like for forthcoming topics.
  • vBeers: Join us in a local pub, The Bridge Hotel, for a drink courtesy of our sponsors Nimble Storage

VMUG sommermøde hos VMware:

My second VMUG this month is outside of the UK in Denmark – or more specifically Nærum, Denmark – which is on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Myself and Carmel will be there again – as we aligning the VMUG event with a long weekend in the capital. I’ve been to Copenhagen a couple of times with the VMworld events, but it will be nice to see the city rather than inside of the Bella Convention Centre!

You can register for the event using the groups EventBrite page here

I was originally down to do a presentation just on the DR and the Cloud, but sadly my colleague Joe Bagley can’t attend the event as planned – so I will be covering his session as well. Some wags on Twitter last week suggest my sessions should run back-to-back so if I do overrun (I always overun!) then I only would cannibalise my own time for speaking… Sadly, that would probably mean less time for “frokost”…

I will need to spend sometime with my VDI-WHY session which I first presented more than year ago in Salt Lake City/Portland for event with Mountain States Networking.

Here’s the agenda:

10:00-10:15 Velkomst v. Steen Rask, Country Manager
10:15-11:00 Automatisering med vCenter Orchestrator (Mønster/Robert)
11:00-11:30 Pause
11:30-12:15 DR and the Cloud – To, From, Of (Mike Laverick)
12:15-13:15 Frokost
13:15-14:15 Nimble Storage
14:15-14:45 Pause
14:45-15:45 VDI-WHY? Millstone, Milestone or Stepping Stone
(Mike Laverick)
15:45-16:00 Pause og slut på det officielle program
16:00 – 19:00 Vmug øl og Grill
*Ændringer i programmet kan forekomme
