I’ve been asked to perform at the Pernernial Exhibition on the 10th July along with a cavalcade of musicians. Haarlem Artspace is a gallery in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, championing rural contemporary art regionally, nationally, and internationally through exhibitions, residencies, talks and events. They hope to enable the research, development and presentation of work inspired by their unique location. Work that further examines themes of ritual, magic and folklore, the local history and pre-history, the distinctive geography of the region and environmental awareness. The gallery is very fortunate to be partnered with Haarlem Studios, a vibrant community, where creative practitioners and artists can share ideas, practice or opportunities. They hope that their programme will continue to support regional creatives and provide pathways to new opportunities. They run a regular series of micro-residencies, and continue to build new networks with artists, galleries and institutions both nationally and internationally with a view to encouraging the cross-pollination of ideas and the sharing of resources.
Perennial, the first in a new series of annual exhibitions at Haarlem Artspace, celebrates the breadth and vitality of artistic practice rooted in the wider region.
Bringing together artists living and working locally with others from across the UK who are seeking to form creative links with this unique rural setting, Perennial reflects Haarlem Artspace’s commitment to nurturing a thriving and supportive community of contemporary practitioners, both emerging and established.
The exhibition’s title evokes ideas of return, resilience, and slow growth — of cycles that repeat and renew. In this spirit, Perennial marks not only the beginning of an ongoing exhibition tradition but also the kind of sustainable, long-term thinking that underpins our approach to programming, collaboration, and meaningful support for artists through space, opportunity, and community.
They open Perennial with a musical celebration at the gallery on Thursday, the 11th July
